Let us share a bit about the Chili Cook-off, a true labor of love for us, for the chili chefs, for our entertainers and our volunteers. It is an amazing gathering that brings us all together to celebrate good times and contribute so meaningfully to our charities.
The cook-off is held rain or shine on the first Saturday in November. Visitors hailing from around the state and beyond experience lots of great chili. The flavors and styles are as different as the many trimmings gracing the tents. Chili is served up from teams in rustic mountain shacks, in outhouses and on back porches.
The entertainment is talented and the music non-stop, beginning with our awe-inspiring welcome ceremony. Live music often leads to dancing on our island stage.
Inside, our silent auction bidding is always spirited and competitive. Auction winners brought home everything from framed artwork and jewelry to local wine baskets, mini-vacations and home services.
The cornhole tournament draws novice and seasoned players from all over.
The Cook-off helped raises money for the National Kidney Foundation and Good Doctor's Foundation and 100% of the monies raised goes to them. These non-profit organizations serve Central Virginia area patients of kidney disease, organ donors and recipients, and their families – conditions near and dear to the hearts of committee members, volunteers, entertainers, and chili teams who help to make this endeavor a success.
Mark your calendars - the Central Virginia Charity Chili Cook-off is held every year on the first Saturday in November! We sure hope to see you then.
